RE: snakes in a 5ER

As far as I'm concerned - the only good snake is a dead snake! Back when I was in college, we went to the Bergen Swamp (western New York)and low and behold, there was a Mississauga rattler in the trail. I very quietly stepped behind the professor, who was a fairly big guy, while some of my classmates started to poke it with their walking sticks. When the professor turned around and saw me, his comment was, "If that snake bites you Eric, it will make you deathly ill, but it won't kill you." Is there a difference????

RE: Camping: The Cause Of Many Social "Conditions"

The way is see it is there are some people who cut through campsites who have no clue about etiquette. Then there are the others who want to express, "This is public property and I'll do as I d**n well please, YOUR rights be d****d and I don't care whether you paid for a campsire or not". Is the desire to have a little bit of privacy when we are camping a reflection of the "American Dream" and is the opposing view that of the "Ugly American" who demands what he wants? In my opinion, the answers to those questions sort of says it all as to who you are.
This past summer, we had the experience of having a young mother run through our campsite on her way to the bathroom with her two-year-old. She apologized for cutting through and hoped that we would understand that she was toilet training her child. We chuckled along with her and encouraged her on. Those of us with children remember those days. We were comfortable with that. On that same weekend, another person walked between our fiver and our truck - not on the edge of the campsite - as we were sitting there eating dinner and not more than six feet away from us. There was no urgency for that person to get anywhere and he was just "checking things out" as he put it. Checking what things out and why? Sort of makes you wonder. Want to cut through my site - fine. Just walk along the edge and allow me some space.
I guess that I'll live and camp as I was brought up - to respect others' privacy and rights and hope that most people will respect mine. I was taught that what belongs to(or is rented by)someone else is not mine. I'm just not into communal property with strangers.
Bruce, I agree with you totally!

RE: Do I need a slider hitch for my 5vr?

We had a Reese 16k slider when we first got our 5th wheel for the peace of mind it offered. Then I started to think about the tight turns we used to do when we had our old TT and transfered that thought to the back window of our truck. Suppose I guessed a turn wrong and didn't get out of the truck to move the slider back. So..I bought a Pullrite Superglide. Maybe a bit expensive, but I do not have to worry about any turns now. Me paranoid? Maybe, but I have no worries about turns now and I get to stay inside the truck in bad weather :)

RE: Taking Delivery Today!

We know exactly how you feel about picking up your new "toy". We were a little sad also to be giving up our old TT because of the great times we had with it, but the sadness was short-lived. The excitment grew as we drove out of the dealer's lot. Have a great time with your new fiver :)! I'd love to see pictures!

RE: Looking for suggestions.

We have a 2008 Sprinter Copper Canyon 293FWSLS rear kitchen model and love it. We also looked at the Heartland Sundance with a rear kitchen. The Sundance was our second choice only because it didn't have a bedroom slide. I think the quality is comparable to what we did get.

RE: fifth wheel with rear kitchen

We also have a rear kitchen and have had no problems with breakage. My wife was concerned about the microwave turntable however and saved the styrofoam packing that it came in. She now puts the turntable into the foam and back into the microwave to insure that it makes the journeys safely. She enjoys the rear kitchen as she feels it gives us more space in the living area.Wife happy = me happy :)

RE: Keystone ???

Hi MattyL...Greetings from western New York,
We have a Sprinter Copper Canyon - Sprinter is the first line that Keystone started with and we are pleased with it. We have a 2008 model and had a few minor issues that were taken care of promptly by the dealer (Wilkins RV in Bath, N.Y.). Keystone is the #1 RV manufacturer in the country and I guess that says something for them. We would buy another Keystone product without hesitation. I'm sure that many other RV companies are good and I'm sure that you will hear from other members of this forum regarding that. We happen to like Sprinter/Keystone and I'm sure that others like their brand as well. We had a Dutchmen TT previously and we will never buy another. Quality was our issue and the dealer did absolutely nothing to help us (we didn't buy our 5er from that dealer). You will need to look at some and choose what you like and fits your needs. I do recommend Keystone as we've been really happy with the service and quality, but there may be others out there with different opinions as per their experiences. Best of luck in choosing what you like/need and happy camping!!!

RE: Crossing into Canada

I haven't towed a trailer into Canada, but I have been there many times via the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and the Rainbow Bridge. Take your sunglasses OFF before speaking to the border agent as most of them will tell you to take them off anyway. Better to start off on a positive note with them. Coming back into the US, you had better have them off or you will be ordered to in no uncertain terms. I find the Canadaian border agents much more friendly and polite than our US agents. I truly hope that they are civil with the Canadians coming in because it does leave a lasting negative impression! We do love going to Canada though and have plans for the future to take our 5ver around the Great Lakes.

RE: Bugs

2 DA WDS...I went to the Rejex website (thanks for adding that info!) and I see 3 types of Glare polish. Did you use the Micro Finish, Professional Polish or the Rapid Action Spray? Also, I don't see any "use directions" on the website, so how do you apply the product? Does it have to be applied, dry to a haze and then polished, or can you put it on with a long handled brush and then wiped off? Perhaps you have guessed that I am very hesitant about height?

RE: OOOPS! Spilled Grape Juice On Carpet

The best way to get red wine (and red grape) stains out of a carpet (or clothing, etc.) is to use Wine Away. It comes in a spray container and we get it at our local liquor store where we buy our wine. I'm sure it's available in other stores as well. I don't know if Wally World carries it or not, but my guess would be they do. It is fantastic!

RE: 5th Wheel Insurance

We have ours through our auto & homeowners company as well. I've been receiving information from the Good Sam Club and Camping World about RV insurance through GMAC and it offers the ability to remove the Collision for the months that it is in storage (keeping the comprehensive active in case of fire, weather damage, etc.). It also offers "full replacement cost payment" for the first 5 years you own the trailer. Does anyone have this coverage and what do you think of it??

Yet another superglide question...

We have a universal hitching plate on our trailer for our superglide (held on with a nylon block). I am seeing water standing in the plate after rain and it's starting to show signs of rust. Has anyone else seen this problem and have you drilled holes into the plate to let it out? I'm a little hesitant to start drilling, but I don't want rust either. Thanks in advance for any advice.

RE: fiver pull test and Superglide

Now who is strong enough to unlatch the handle with the pin weight of the trailer on it. I don't think it is possible.
The trailer weight has to be on the Superglide in order to release the spring/handle. My wife, who can barely reach over the side rails can release the handle with no problem. That's why I like a padlock.

RE: New '07 with Eternabond on side slide out

My Copper Canyon doesn't have tape along the spot you are referring to. Would it be to my advantage to put Eternabond tape there and if so what exactly will it do for me??
Thanks in advance!

RE: Good Sam's Emergency Road Service -- Non-service

We've had GS ERS since 2002 and will not travel without it. We were on a cross-country trip that year and we lost a tire (metal in the road and heavy enough traffic that I couldn't move to avoid it)on our Dutchman TT on the interstate heading south into Phoenix. Luckily, we were able to limp along to the next on-ramp and we pulled onto the space between the on-ramp and the highway. We called GS with our cell phone and they had a repair truck there within 45 minutes. The worker couldn't change the tire (another story for another time) and left us. We called GS again and they were able to find a flat-bed about 100 miles away to come and take the TT to a truckstop on I-10. That flat-bed was NOT from a company with a GS contract. We waited a few hours for the flat-bed to get there, but there was nothing else we could do. The great part was that the GS rep (Cory) stayed on the job until he knew the flat-bed was there. He called every fifteen minutes to make sure that we were okay. We were really glad of that because in all the hours we sat alongside the road, we never saw one police car go by. When we finally told Cory about that, he called the Phoenix police and had a policeman there within 5 minutes. As the flat-bed was not a contract company vehicle, we paid the charges of over $300.00 and were totally reimbursed by GS. I will always have GS ERS after that incident. We were over 2000 miles from home and they took care of us. Like I said, we will not travel without it all because of that experience.

RE: Rear kitchens, pros/cons

The slide blocking access to the frig. was something that we didn't think about until we got our fiver home. However, after looking at the pros and cons (maybe a little bit late) we decided that we got the one that is best for us. We like the room in the middle and wife did not like the big rear window in mid-kitchen models. So she's happy...I'm happy!

RE: Type of 5th wheel hitch

Have you checked the Pull-rite hitches yet? I have a Super-glide and for my situation with a short-bed truck, I think it's the best. Maybe a bit more $$$, but I feel it was worth it.
